Yesterday was Ish's 40th birthday. I met up with them at the BYOB pool place with a bottle of Ardbeg and some Anchor Steams. Two hours later we were off to Tucano's for an all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink, Brazilian meat fest. Two hours after that we were on our way to a bar in Roppongi, at which we met Baruto. I was obscenely effusive, as is my wont, telling him that we're all sure that he'll be the next Yokozuna and that we expect him to be a great one with a long reign.
Some time after that I remember being on a dance floor flailing around and falling often. A sotted cab ride home and I'm none the worse for wear.
Just up the street there's an old house that's been abandoned at least for the three years I've lived here and, by the look of it, quite a bit longer than that. On the way to the コンビニ I saw that they had started to take it down. It's amazing to watch them demolish a house that has other properties less than two meters away on either side. It's like a trapeze act.
These critters are everywhere here and I don't know whether they're harmful. Are there measures I can and should be taking? As far as I can tell, they don't climb the stalks, or seem to have much interests in the plants at all. Anybody have experience with them?
UPDATE: Turns out they're regular だんごむし (Armadillidium vulgare ). They only eat fallen leaves and improve soil health by breaking down vegetable matter in sizes more readily used by microbes. I also found this experiment (.pdf) that explains why they always seems to move toward the place that I'm watering.
