Am I alone?
Or is anyone else watching The Big Bang Theory. Generally I consider 30-minute sitcoms the lowest form of television. Recent exceptions being the short-lived Knights of Prosperity and the first few seasons of Scrubs.
I have found, obvious character tweaking during the writers' strike aside, BBT to be consistently entertaining, if a little generic in its nerdy references.
UPDATE: Forgot to mention 30 Rock. Mea culpa.

we watch BBT when we can; it is kinda funny. The best 30 minute show right now is Flight of the Concords...
I find that BBT gets tired occasionally, I am not sure if the references are too close in style or there just isn't a wide enough range given the premise (yeah, the neighbor is hot, yeah the guys are geeky...etc.)??

Exactly.
And the neighbor is not that hot. Also, isn't she like 10 or 15 years younger than the dude crushing on her? Not that that doesn't happen in real life, but if we're to belive in their eventual hook up, shouldn't they be a little closer in age.
I didn't mention flight of the Conchords because I forgot it. Also, because it's HBO, I just assume it will be good (Entourage being an exception to that rule -- except Jeremy Piven, he's always good).

Sadly, not alone.
I don't watch a lot of TV, and I do it through Teh Intarnets when I do...
But thanks to How I Met Your Mother I got hooked on the whole Monday lineup, including BBT. It's simultaneously good and cringeworthy.
Patrick Warburton (Rules of Engagement) makes me laugh every time he opens his mouth, which I consider a failing of my own character. The rest of the show is disposable.
I also watch 30 Rock, which is about as brilliant as TV gets these days. And I still groove on Scrubs, although it's own brilliance is in less frequent flashes now.
The rest of TV is crickets and dogs barking in the distance.

Oh, and on BBT, I assumed everybody was mid-late 20s.
Part of the background social commentary, to me, is the hot neighbor is arrested in adult status ways (she's a waitress and likes to party) while the geeks are all accomplished in their chosen field at a young age. Of course, the social statuses are completely reversed in the conventional way.
One of my very last blog posts was about the two different /types/ of geeks on the show. Briefly, Leonard and Rajesh are uncomfortable with their geek fetishes and want to be "normal", whereas Sheldon and Howard are too self-centered to care whether they fit in or not.
I think about things waaaaay too much.

Nah Scott just the right amount. The reason that folks of our age and predilections loved Clerks so much is that finally there were characters on the big screen that talked about the same things that we talked about and also went into excruciating detail about things that didn't have anything to do with love or money. Not that we don't talk about those things with the same incisiveness and fervor...
I haven't checked it out on IMDB yet, which, by the way, shows some growth on my part, but I assume that the guy playing Leonard, since I remember him on the Roseanne show, must be like 34 or 35...

"crickets and dogs barking in the distance"
So very well put.

Ok, so I'm not completely reformed.
The dude from Roseanne is _BANG_... 33.
Posted by: Shannon | 05/17/2008 at 11:59
He's a full 10 years older than Penny.

I assume you've noticed the cameos of other Roseanne cast members.

Yeah.
Sheldon's mom. Leonard's booty call.
I dig it.
